Dear Parent/Carer
Welcome to school after a lovely summer, I hope you have enjoyed some exciting adventures over the last few weeks. I am looking forward to hearing about some of the children’s trips, holidays and special news. It has been wonderful to see our new starters smartly dressed in their new uniform, ready and enthusiastic to start their first exhilarating year at school.
Hopefully, the children will be coming home with exciting news, names of new friends and of course new things they are learning and achieving, however I do apologise if they are tired. It is a big change for them and they are taking in lots of new information every day, they are learning new routines and rules and will be trying to remember new names and faces. If you have any comments, questions or concerns at any time then please come and speak to me. My door is always open, please do not wait until parents evening.
A home-school communication book has been given to your child already. This is only one communication link between us at school and yourselves at home. The link book will be updated regularly so it is important that your child brings it into school every day. It is a way of communicating any messages, questions or comments to one another. I will check the book every morning and respond appropriately.
The children have also been given a reading book and a reading diary. Please share the reading book with your child and record your comments in their reading diary. We will listen to your child read at school and record their achievements and comments in their diary also. Please can you ensure your child brings their reading book and reading diary into school every day.
Phonics is taught to the children daily. They will be learning new sounds and letters during phonics and this will help them build up their reading and writing skills to enable them to read and write successfully. The children will be bringing home a sound book and key words which will be updated consistently to reflect the sounds, letters and words they are learning at school. Please can you support your child at home by helping them to recognise the letters, say the correct sound and words and form the letters correctly when writing them. As with your child's reading book, could you please ensure they bring their sound book into school every day so that we can also support them and update them appropriately.
The Parents Notice Board outside the cloakroom will be regularly updated with information, requests and special news. It is important that you check your child's book bag every day for important letters.
Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school from Monday morning until Friday afternoon when it can be taken home and washed. The children have allocated sessions but we often take the opportunity at other times during the week. Please could you ensure that their PE kit as with all school uniform is fully named.
Please remember to use our school website to access any information you may need. Each half term there will be our learning letter, show and tell dates and any other information about Class 1 and our school, including the weekly newsletter all on the website.
On a Friday afternoon, we have golden time. This is an opportunity for the children to bring toys, games or books in from home that they would like to share. The children also have allocated days on which they can bring things in from home for Show and Tell. These dates have been written in their communication books; they are on the parent’s information board and will be on the website for future reference.
I am very much looking forward to working with you to ensure your child has the best possible time at school and that their learning meets their needs as they progress along their learning journey.
Many thanks
Mrs Teresa Fothergill
