Kirepwe School, KenyaKirepwe SchoolKirepwe School

Our link school in Kenya is Kirepwe School, situated on Kirepwe Island in Mida Creek in the Coast Province of Kenya. The school is only accessible by boat from the mainland and serves a small rural community.

Mrs Wilson, our Headteacher visited Kirepwe School in the summer, along with some other teachers from schools in Nidderdale. This was be a working visit to establish links with Kirepwe and to begin to set up Kirepwe SchoolKirepwe Schoolan agricultural training project (Mwera Farm) for pupils from Kirepwe and for other schools in the Mida Creek area.

The pupils have did a fantastic job of raising over £1,100 through a sponsored walk and tuck shop to  contribute towards the cost of a member of staff from Kirepwe School coming to visit our school in September.
Our children really benefitted from this visit, learning about school life and agricultural project in Kenya and being taught by the Kenyan teachers and even learnt a little Swahili.

Our Kenyan visitors enjoyed being based and teaching in the schools and were warmly welcomed at Ripley Estate, a goat farm and were formally welcomed to Harrogate by the Mayor in his Parlour.

The end of this very successful exchange was marked with a Showcase Evening at Nidderdale High School, which our pupils took part in.
